10:38 am - Media Floetry
So, where's the outrage?
Where's all the publicity?
When a democratic representative (Alan Mollohan, D-WV) appears to be
engaging in similar 'suspicious' activity
as some Republicans.... it certainly doesn't make
front page headlines.

To the liberal media... and the conservative media, for that matter:
Please don't treat me like an idiot.
You control and manipulate what becomes news,
in order to control and manipulate me - and it's
not going to work. Stop it. Put down those spin-tools that you use.
Of course, I KNOW that you... the media elite... won't stop pushing your agendas on us regular joes.
But I still need to politely ask you to cut it out.
Thank you. Now let me close...

We complain about the president, all his actions and his public policy.
But much of the time we base our complaints on stories that have been spun to make his administration look bad.
Once again, it's that biased media strategy.

Again, I'm not defending his every action. I'm often not on the same page with George W. I'm just saying that things aren't always what they seem.
Every day I can give you an example of media bias.
The words they choose.
The phrasings they use.
The sources they abuse.
The bias will never stop.. on both side of the aisle. Objectivity is, in most cases, just a pipe dream.

My advice? Just be wise...
Don't be blind information consumers -
Watch the TV
Listen to the Radio
Read that newspaper
..with open eyes.

08:17 am - Questions for '06
I have this funny feeling that 06' will be a pivotal year in regards to how Christianity is viewed in the United States. As we found the past couple of years, there's still a stronghold of Bible-believing Christians within our country. So the question is... how will Satan try to 'undermine' things?

In that light, here are a couple of questions I have:

Will 'The Davinci Code' be like 'The Passion of the Christ' in reverse?
Will other movies/tv shows, such as 'The Beast' or 'The Book of Daniel', have a significant impact on people's view of Christ, the Bible, and 'Christianity' in
      general?
How often will the term 'extreme right-wing Christians' be used as derogatory slang in the 06' congressional elections?

Illogical 'Extremist' Group of the Week: http://www.vhemt.org/ :
the Voluntarily Human Extinction Movement

It's a scary world we live in, full of scary people with scary ideas.
But don't be intimidated, be educated.
Most likely, groups like VHEMT will remain on the fringe of human ideas for as long as our globe spins,
but these kind of ideas will become more popular as Christ becomes less popular.

Who in the world would believe that we should willingly stop breeding? Who in the world would actually opine that we should castrate humanity into oblivion??! I mean, most of the blockbuster action movies center around the idea of SAVING the human race, right?!
Well, apparently, the people of VHEMT believe that we've really blown it as a human race, and the only way to help the earth replenish itself is to destroy ourselves.

My favorite quote from their web-site is this (click on the link and scroll down the page to read the answer in its full context): "When breeding is an unquestioned right, we are also guaranteeing the right to breed slave labor, and to sentence someone to life in a rapidly deteriorating environment. A solid case could be made that procreation today is de facto child abuse."

So, if I get this right, giving birth to kids is in fact child abuse, folks. That's the type of defeatest "life is worthless" crap that I hate. Sure we need to be responsible with the earth we've been given.....

....but giving every man a vasectomy (not something they directly endorse, but that's the essence of their argument) is NOT the answer. I hope most people will agree with me.

peace out

So hey. I've decided I'm going to focus more on commentary on my livejournal.. and bring more of my personal notes to myspace. I'm not arrogant enough to think you'll visit both,
that's just what I'm going to do.

Cool.
Have a great weekend!

06:22 pm - This blog entry is sponsored by the letter C (capitalized).
Gotta love them Dutch. [generalization]
They are the beacon of all things politically correct. [generalization]
Did you know that they can mandate the use of their written language? [fact]
For example it is now in most cases, according to the stories I've read, against the law to capitalize the word Christ, Jew or an assortment of other words that reference one's religion (follow the link to get the further story). Mohammed remains capitalized. [fact. Sources accuracy unknown]

I won't comment on this very much, other than to say I'm extremely grateful to be in a land that allows me to exercise free speech. [strong opinion]
And I'll challenge anyone to a mighty thumb war match... be it republican or democrat... should they ever try to take away or limit us from that right... even if any such limitations are justified in the name preventing discrimination or hate. [overdramatic machisimo?]

06:18 pm - Alito more controversy (but not too much)
As you've heard by now, Judge Alito is nominated for the supreme court. I've done a little research and so far I like what I see.
He seems to have his head on straight.
Of course, the key issue of debate is going to be his ruling on a case in 1991, where he dissented with his collegues by supporting a Pennsylvania law requiring married women to notify
their husbands if they were going to have an abortion. (Well, duh!!)

The biggest stated concern of this law is that it could endanger women who are physically abused. That is a legitimate concern, yet one that the law addressed through four exceptions [the exceptions being that (1) he is not the father of the child, (2) he cannot be found after diligent effort, (3) the pregnancy is the result of a spousal sexual assault that has been reported to the authorities, or (4) she has reason to believe that notification is likely to result in the infliction of bodily injury upon her]. Additionally, under this law the women were only required to notify husbands.. they didn't have to give the husbands any vote or say in the matter whatsoever.

So Alito's line of thought was this: How does this law present an undue burden on a woman's right to have an abortion? This is excellent logic. (Of course I'm simplifying this a lot - you can check out his opinion(point #58) for yourself).

Pro-Choice advocates are so concerned that any limitations on abortion would be a set-back for women's rights, but they hurt themselves in being so radical in their views.
A husband who is not threatening his wife has every right to be notified about an abortion - don't even try to change my mind on this.
I understand the issue goes a tad deeper, but I'm not going to throw all my logic out here.. since it's time to eat!

Unlike Miers, there's no question in my head that Alito will be confirmed... unless its found that he's Don Michael Corleone's long lost relative.... but that would be a stereotype...

Okay..
He broke into a pizza parlor, and eventually stole himself a safe with cash in it. I can't exactly condone this kind of behavior.
But in between, surveillance cameras recorded him as he tried on a couple of aprons, found one that fit him, and then started cooking up a pepperoni pizza.
Sounds like he'd be an interesting guy to talk to.

02:58 pm - Stereotype Me, Part 2
NO!
Don't APOLOGIZE!
UGH!
Real Racism gets diluted when people make a big deal out of a comment like DeBerry's.
It's frustrating when real Racism.. like the stuff that happened two weeks ago in Toledo.. is put on the backburner to stupid non-stories like this.

...And when you apologize, it gives the misguided media more fuel to ruin more careers over innocent remarks.

Deberry's own players weren't offended.. and they're the only ones who might truly be affected by his comments..

So just let it GO, people.
Take a few deep breaths...
And let it go!

07:42 am - Go Ahead, Stereotype me...
That's right...
You heard what I said..

Stereotype me.

Let's begin: I'm white, so I can't jump that well. I'm Lutheran so I'm afraid of change. I'm left-handed.. so I'm a little 'different'. I'm balding, so I'm 'unfortunate'. I like watching television so I'm 'lazy'...
you can feel free to add to the list if you like.

I don't mind. Really... I don't.
I can't say it's always fun being stereotyped, but you're certainly not going to see me make a big deal about it.
We've become hyper-sensitive to our differences.
And it makes me sick.
Literally, I'm going to vomit. I'm on my way to the bathroom now.

My cause for having my ire stoked is this article.
An air force coach said that, "It just seems to be that way, that Afro-American kids can run very, very well".
Now I understand.. When you make a 'blanket' statement like that, you are certainly setting yourself up for criticism. But riddle me this... Have the people who are upset with his comments ever coached his football team? Have they ever been paid to make the kind of observations that a football coach (let alone 'the winningest coach in service academy history') is supposed to make?
That is his opinion. That is just his opinion. Yet there we go, giving somebody the 'racist' label again.

Yes.. we need to be careful what we say.
Yes.. we need to watch our tongue. The book of James is strong in encouraging us to be smart with our words.....
Let's respect each other, and gently correct each other..

but do we have to get on a Holy high horse and wet our pants everytime somebody says something we don't want to hear.
Do we have to be so sensitive????!!

Why am I concerned about this?
Because this hypersensitive mindset of ours is the first step towards revoking our first-amendment rights.
One day, you'll see a push in America to ban 'hate' speech, as they have in Canada.
Which means. eventually, anyone who wants to share God's view of certain behaviors will have to bite their tongue
for fear of getting fined or even jailed.

Listen, I don't like what's being written and spoken against Christians. A lot of it is certainly hateful. And yes, I admit, it does bother me at times.
But anybody who says those kind of things - i.e. Bill Maher -
is entitled to do so until their dying day. If I can't take it, than I really DO have a neurological disorder, Bill.

Okay, so this ended up being a long rant. I'm sorry, I was just so offended by people getting offended that I had to vent.
Ooops... :)

I think some people look at me weird when I spew out random thoughts that sound more like conspiracy theories than anything else.

But seriously, does it not concern many of you that animals are being elevated to 'human' status? You can't deny that it's happening in the world. Environmentalists and Animal Rights activists who go beyond the realm of reason have a firm grip on many governments.
If you don't believe me.. I present to you Italy as exhibit A.

Now, I believe in treating all of God's creation with the utmost respect, even to the point where I've questioned my meat eating habits (don't worry.. i haven't changed.. I figured I'd rather be more disrespectful to animals than to plants). But to take things to fining people 500 euros for not walking their PETS 3 TIMES A DAY!!??? That is a ridiculous abuse of governmental power, and is incredibly stupid and narrow-minded.

Maybe, the dog DOESN'T want to walk a 3rd time. Maybe he's lazy and just want to sleep. Aren't you infringing on that's dogs right to sleep? That really is cruel and unusual.

When you deny there's a God... and when you deny that Wo/Man is the pinnacle of creation... a lot of messed up things start happening.

That's not a free pass for humans to start kicking cats... but it should make us think carefully before we start forcing everybody to get on our knees and bow to every dog that crosses our path.

This world confuses me.

NOT of this world...
Josh

*LIONS RANT (from Sunday)*
The Detroit Lions and their fans have an incurable bout of the "Canine Distemper Virus".

I've been feeling the symptoms for years. Give me one good reason I shouldn't rescind my allegiance to the Lions. They are one of the most mediocre franchises in sports today. Well.. all will be solved when Jeff Garcia becomes the starter (*laughs uncontrolably*)

9. Prozac
10. to survey town for street signs that need to be replaced

Josh Hates....

So,

In case the rumor mill didn't get to you.. Yes, Sarah and I are engaged as of July 31. I wanted to make this a much more poetic entry, but time has whipped by and things are only speeding up. I'll only say that my life is incredibly and immeasurably better because God has put her in it.

But for now..
The new album from Shaun Groves is stellar. There's no doubt that some of his songs will make it onto The O.C. or some other similar tv drama. 'Sad Song' is one of the best songs of the year.... you heard it here....
